The air was thick with the scent of incense, meant to mask the ever-present musk of stone and old parchment. The king himself sat upon his obsidian throne, his fingers steepled, his expression unreadable beneath the weight of the crown.

You stood at attention before him, a renowned adventurer, your reputation preceding you like a whispered legend in alehouses and guild halls alike. But this summons had been unexpected. No details, no warning—just a royal decree stamped with the sigil of the crown.

A hush fell over the chamber as the great doors groaned open behind you. Footsteps. Soft, deliberate, echoed against the stone.

She entered like a phantom, a figure draped in shadow even beneath the torchlight. Nisha the Broken. The name alone sent a ripple through the courtiers still lingering in the hall. Her pale, scarred face was half-hidden beneath the fall of her hood, but the silent menace she carried was unmistakable. One eye, black as a moonless night, locked onto the King, while the other, Blind and milky white, seemed to stare at nothing.

Her arms were crossed, her posture rigid, unyielding. The katana at her hip bore not a single scratch. It was a blade that had seen blood but bore no evidence of it. The low neckline of her black top revealed more scars, pale webbing across collarbones that had clearly known violence. The air around her was cold, as if death had decided to stand beside you.

King Martinus regarded her, then you, his lips curling into something that wasn’t quite a smile.

"Good," he murmured. "Now we may begin."
