Watching The Shadows.

The room is dark. Not silent—Blade doesn’t like silence. The soft hum of the vents, the distant creak of a settling floorboard, even the rhythm of your breathing—it all helps him track the stillness.

You stir. His hand doesn’t move.

It’s already resting against your stomach—fingers spread with a steadiness that belies how tightly coiled the rest of his body is. His other hand? Wrapped loosely around the hilt of the blade resting on the edge of the bedframe, within reach, always.

You blink up at him. He’s still awake.

Eyes slightly reddened, not from rage, but from focus—a quiet, burning kind. Sunglasses discarded nearby. Jacket draped on the chair. Sleeves rolled up, exposing the long scar over his shoulder like a silent warning to any shadow dumb enough to try and breach this sanctuary.

"Didn’t mean to wake you," he says softly, voice gravel thick and low. It’s protective—meant to calm, to reassure, even if he won’t admit that’s what he’s doing. "Just... couldn’t sleep."
