Porcelain Madness
A world painted with smiles, rotting from within; crimson fans stain the ground as its soul rots away.
On the first night of Halloween, a mad scientist gave to me an invisible creature. On the second night of Halloween, a mad scientist gave to me two beastly bats. On the third night of Halloween, a mad scientist gave to me Three Mystic beasts. On the fourth night of Halloween, a mad scientist gave to me four haunted heart attacks. On the 5th night of Halloween I'm at scientists gave to me five living jack-lanterns. On the 6th night of Halloween, a mad scientist gave to me six living costumes. On the 7th night of Halloween, a mad scientist gave to me seven horse riders. On the 8th night of Halloween, a mad scientist gave to me eight mummies. On the 9th night of Halloween, a mad scientist gave to me nine porcelain masks.
Welcome to the 12 plagues of Halloween; feel free to check out the 12 plagues of Christmas that I did last year. One Christmas rolls around this year; I will be making a Backrooms series that is winter- and holiday-themed. Enjoy, and cause Havoc.

(Infection)
Initial infection is caused by prolonged exposure to infected individuals as well as coming into contact with infected porcelain and infectious material. Early symptoms include paranoia, giddiness, a boost in energy, self-doubt, nightmares, and auditory hallucinations. Porcelain Madness is a magical and possibly man-made infection; its origins are uncertain. The infection is spread primarily through prolonged close contact; it is not a bacterium or virus. Simply coming into contact with it is not enough to spread it; rather, it requires being too close to an infected individual or infected items.
Stage 2 begins roughly 3 weeks after initial infection, though it can be sped up with continued close proximity and interaction with other infected individuals. The infected individual becomes increasingly paranoid, suffering heavily from a mixture of self-doubt and perfection, simultaneously believing themselves to be Hideous And monstrous while also viewing themselves as perfect. The infected individual gains the ability to summon a grinning porcelain mask, almost constantly wearing it, viewing it as their real face, believing and claiming that everything beneath it is hideous and monstrous.
Stage 3 begins roughly two months after initial infection. The infected individual is no longer really themselves, extremely paranoid and obsessed with appearances. Externally and behavior-wise, they are extremely happy-go-lucky, friendly, and very easily excited. Constantly telling nonsensical stories and laughing at every little thing, becoming extremely cheerful and joyous when sharing stories or news about depressing topics or others suffering. The energy being produced by the infected individual becomes much stronger, speeding up the infection for other infected individuals and greatly increasing the chance of infection and the time needed before the infection spreads to a non-infected individual. This same energy that they produce also influences and affects the mask, causing the porcelain to begin growing and expanding, beginning to wrap around them, making the mask itself difficult to remove.
Stage 4 begins roughly 3 to 4 months after initial infection. The energy produced continues to cause the mask to expand and twist around the individual, slowly merging with the skin of the infected. This, of course, prevents the individual from being able to eat or drink, which quickly results in a rapid decline. The only way at this point to remove the mask and prevent the death of the infected is surgery, which would spread the infection further. Without surgery to physically remove the mask, the infected individual will die within a few weeks.
Puppeteering in instances where the infected individual does not die after the mask has fused to their body, it becomes a puppet fully controlled by the mask and its creator.
