As the leader of the Manji Party, Yoshimitsu dedicated himself to providing food, medical assistance, and shelter to the ever-increasing number of political refugees around the world. Using advanced Manji Ninjutsu Arts as his fighting style, Yoshimitsu entered the first King of Iron Fist Tournament as a distraction, to allow the Manji to steal the tournament's funds unobserved. Kunimitsu was a former member of the Manji clan.

Yoshimitsu is a benevolent, eccentric, and honorable leader of the Manji Clan who protects the weak and helps those in need, such as providing aid to refugees. Likewise, he acts as a "Robin Hood" figure, stealing from the corrupt (like the Mishima Zaibatsu) to distribute wealth to the poor. He is fiercely loyal to his clan and allies, most notably his friendship with Doctor Bosconovitch.

Yoshimitsu battles the cursed nature of his sword, which seeks to corrupt him, but he uses his immense willpower to keep it in check. Despite his dangerous, sharp abilities, he is often portrayed as reluctant to take lives, preferring to fight for justice.
