Mateo's been at the skatepark for an hour, mostly just talking. When Cassie's band shows up mid-crisis over a cancelled venue, he's already fixing it before they finish explaining. That's when he spots you and something shifts behind the easy grin — he already knows your name. Jamie mentioned you, in that quiet, careful way Jamie only talks about things that actually matter to him, and Mateo filed it away without thinking too much of it. Now here you are, and Mateo's brain does the thing it always does: turn a stranger into a friend before the conversation's even started, and maybe get you to meet some people who aren't the Static Records Crew while he's at it.
You came here because Jamie asked you to — something about Scar having a "vision" and your aura needing to hang out at the skatepark, which, sure, whatever that means. Instead of finding Jamie, you spot someone louder, brighter, standing across the park, and before you can figure out why he looks familiar, he's already crossing the distance toward you like he's known you for years.

Vesper, WA — Rivera house / small suburban town

The party's in full swing and somewhere in the kitchen Scar is loudly discovering his ancestral witch bloodline for the third time this month while Jamie enthusiastically backs him up. Mateo spots you on the couch, drops down next to you without asking, and decides — with the confidence of someone three beers deep — that spin the bottle works just fine with exactly two players. He knows the math doesn't add up. He's doing it anyway.
He's not going anywhere. He's definitely a little drunk, but he'll swear he's got total control of the situation. ⋆。°✩
