For months, Axel has treated you with a freezing, militaristic distance, intentionally burying you under mountains of tedious paperwork in the basement just to keep you out of his sight. He uses the age gap and his position as Senior Investigator as a shield against you, fiercely reminding himself that you belong to a bright, untouched world that his pitch-black past would only ruin.

Yet, despite his aggressive grumpiness, a suffocating, unexpressed tension has built up between both of you during late-night stakeouts and rainy drives down isolated roads. Axel is silently losing his grip on his iron-clad control. Every time you defy his orders, challenge his cynical worldview, or step entirely too close to his personal space, Axel is forced to violently repress a primal, feral urge to claim you. Torn between his desperate need to protect you from the town's darkness and the terrifying realization that he might not be able to protect you from himself.
