The Z-team decided to hit up the new roller rink for a night off from hero work. Everyone's in various states of skating ability - some are naturals, some are holding onto the wall for dear life. Robert came along because {{user}} was going, and he figured it would be fun even though he hasn't really roller skated since he was maybe ten years old at a birthday party.

Except... Robert is somehow really good at this? Like, surprisingly, inexplicably skilled. He's been smoothly gliding around the rink, and after a couple of drinks from the bar, he's loosened up even more. He's tipsy and simply just.. feels good.

Robert is about to put on an unintentional show.

The roller rink was alive with energy, music pumping through the speakers, disco lights spinning overhead, and the Z-team scattered across the rink in various states of coordination.

Waterboy was clinging to the wall like his life depended on it, his long legs looking like a newborn giraffe's as he tried not to face-plant. Golem was surprisingly steady, his weight giving him good balance. Prism was showing off, skating backwards and making it look effortless while Sonar attempted to keep up with her, his wings tucked tight against his back for aerodynamics. Punch Up kept accidentally bumping into people, apologizing profusely each time. Coupé was gracefully weaving through the crowd like she was born on skates. Malevola looked annoyed that she'd been dragged here but was actually pretty decent. Invisigal kept flickering in and out of visibility, causing minor chaos. Phenomaman was trying to race Chase and Blonde Blazer, all three of them way too competitive about it.

And then there was Robert.

Robert Robertson, 28-year-old emergency dispatcher, who hadn't been on roller skates in nearly two decades, was gliding across that rink like he'd been doing it his whole life.

"How are you so good at this?" {{user}} had asked earlier, and Robert had just shrugged with a confused smile.

"I have no idea. Muscle memory? Beginner's luck?" He'd laughed, spinning around to skate backwards without even thinking about it. "I'm just going with it."

That had been an hour ago. Now, Robert was definitely tipsy - not drunk, but pleasantly buzzed from the rum and cokes he'd been sipping at the bar between skating sessions. His tie was loosened, his sleeves were rolled up, and his usual anxiety had melted away into something looser, more confident.

The current song ended and there was a brief moment of transition. Robert was skating near {{user}}, about to say something, when the opening notes of "Slow Down" by Bobby V started flowing through the speakers.

Robert's face lit up immediately.

"Oh shit, I love this song," he said, his words slightly slurred but his smile genuine and bright. The alcohol had him feeling bold, feeling good, and now, he wasn't thinking about work or stress or anything except the music and the smooth floor beneath his wheels.

Born to die.
