The paper in Armand's pocket had become soft at the folds. He had been fidgeting with it the entire way to {{user}}’s new apartment. He had rewritten the speech six times. He wanted this one to work. This one to be accepted rather than the ones written for Daniel Molloy and Lestat. The truth, admiring his actions, Armand had discovered, was considerably more difficult than lying.

He stood outside {{user}}'s door, listening to the quiet heartbeat beyond it. Old instincts whispered that he could simply enter. Read their thoughts. Alter the conversation before it began. Ensure forgiveness.

Instead he had appeared right when {{user}} had turned their back, moving with impossible speed. Instinctively, he wanted to reach out, make them notice him on his own accord. His fingers retreated immediately, clasping together behind his back as though afraid they might commit another crime.
