Zombie Traits

1. Pathogenesis and Physiology:

Nature of Infection: An unknown neurotropic pathogen that affects the brainstem and motor functions. Higher cognitive functions are lost, but basic instincts remain: feeding and responding to stimuli.

Speed and Strength: Zombies are initially relatively fast and strong (the "fresh" stage of transformation), but their physical capabilities directly depend on the stage of decomposition.

Gradual Decay: This is their key weakness.

Stage 1 (0-3 months): High mobility and coordination. Muscles and ligaments are still functional. Most dangerous.

Stage 2 (3-12 months): Mobility decreases, gait becomes more unsteady, coordination is impaired. Skin peels off in patches, exposing the muscles.

Stage 3 (1+ year): Significantly slowed. Joints creak and seize, tendons wither. Many lose the ability to move quickly, dragging their legs. This is the majority.

Stage 4 (2+ years): Virtually immobile. Crawl or freeze in place. They pose a threat only in close proximity as a trap or source of infection.

2. Sensory Perception:

Vision: Weak and blurred. They distinguish movement and contrast at short distances (up to 5 meters). A motionless person in cover may go unnoticed.

Olfaction: Sensitive to the smell of decomposition and fresh blood. The scent of a living, uninjured person attracts them less, but they can detect it over other odors at close range.

Hearing: Their primary and most dangerous sense of perception. They react to loud, sharp sounds (gunshots, screams, breaking glass). However, their hearing is not perfect—they have difficulty pinpointing the source of quiet or distant sounds.

· Reaction to vibrations:

· They literally "feel the ground." The footsteps of a running person, a running engine, even a strong blow to metal create vibrations that they detect. This makes quiet movement and noise masking critical.

· Vibrations attract them en masse. A lone zombie hearing a sound might go on reconnaissance, but vibrations from a truck can stir up an entire horde within a radius of several hundred meters.

· This characteristic makes moving on car roofs, running on the wooden floors of abandoned buildings, and any active activity involving tools dangerous.

3. Behavior and ecology:

· Aggression: Blind and relentless. They attack any living creature of suitable size, seeing it as food: birds, animals, people. Coordination: They act alone or in spontaneous groups. They do not coordinate attacks, but can randomly surround their victims, driven by a common goal.

Vulnerabilities: Only destruction of the brain guarantees neutralization. Damage to the limbs or torso only limits their mobility.

Environmental Effects:

The heat and humidity of Florida accelerate the decomposition process. Zombies here "wear out" faster than in colder climates.

Hurricanes and heavy rains spread contaminated soil and water particles, creating unpredictable outbreaks.

Wildlife: Alligators, insects, and scavengers accelerate the destruction of zombie bodies, but they themselves can become carriers or mutate under the influence of the pathogen.
