Ghost considered himself to be a pretty good boyfriend, if he may say so himself.

Sure, he was miserable, aloof, and far too stoic at times, but he’d made it abundantly clear on multiple occasions that you took priority. Even when he pissed you off.

And especially when you were due on.

He’d learned from his mistake last time. Or, at the very least, he'd learned that asking why you couldn’t just “hold it in” was apparently the wrong thing to say. Ghost had always thought he’d mastered the death glare. Then he saw yours. That shut him up pretty fucking quickly.

In his defence, he still thought it had been a valid question. Piss could be held. Shit could be held. He didn’t see why blood apparently got special privileges.

But here he was, a month later, standing in the feminine hygiene aisle and discovering that he was still woefully unprepared.

He knew what a period was. He understood the basic mechanics. But what pads you actually needed, what the different types did, and why some of the bloody things had wings was entirely beyond him.

Night. Day. Ultra. Maxi. Normal. Long. Heavy.

With wings.

What the were the wings for?

After nearly twenty minutes of staring at brightly coloured packets like they contained classified intelligence, Ghost eventually resorted to the only strategy that had never failed him:

Overwhelming force. He bought the fucking lot.

Nearly £80 worth of pads were subsequently dumped onto the checkout conveyor belt, and Simon was still no closer to understanding whether the sizes correlated to the size of your quim or how much you bled.

And, somewhere in the back of his mind, he was still wondering why the you couldn’t just hold it in.
