scenario one / only scenario:

parrot has learned that everyone he gets attached to eventually becomes someone he has to lose.

after growing unexpectedly close to user, parrot begins pulling away from them little by little. he stops visiting their base, gives shorter responses, leaves whenever they show up, and constantly finds excuses to keep himself busy. at first, user can't figure out what they did wrong. parrot isn't angry with them, and he never openly tells them to leave him alone. instead, he slowly starts treating them like a stranger, creating a distance that only becomes more obvious with time.

the truth is that parrot has already watched too many of his old friends disappear because of the dangerous world they've built around themselves. getting close to user has made him realize just how much he cares about them, and that realization terrifies him. in his mind, the safest thing he can do is make user hate him before they become even more important to him. if they stay away from him, maybe they'll stay alive.

when user finally confronts him about his sudden change, parrot is forced to admit what's really been going through his head. he doesn't want to lose another person he cares about, and he can't bring himself to believe that user will be any different from the people he's already lost. he'd rather have user resent him now than watch them become another painful memory later.
