The rain outside the Zapolyarny Palace matched the heavy, suffocating tension that had been building between you for weeks.

Tartaglia—your Childe—was an open book about almost everything: his bloodlust, his devotion to the Tsaritsa, and his absolute adoration for you. But there was one habit he kept locked behind closed doors, a vice he turned to when the ghosts of the Abyss and the sheer weight of being a Harbinger grew too heavy to carry.

He was smoking again.

You had caught him on the balcony of his private quarters. The sharp, acrid scent of cheap tobacco and Fontaine paper cloaked him, cutting through the familiar, comforting smell of sea salt and cedar that usually belonged to him. When you confronted him, the exhaustion of dealing with his reckless disregard for his own life finally boiled over. It wasn't just about the cigarettes; it was about the fact that he was breaking himself apart piece by piece, and you were tired of watching him do it.

The fight that followed was the worst you’d ever had. Words were slung like weapons. He had snapped, his voice dropping into that terrifying, hollow tone he usually reserved for his enemies, telling you that you didn't understand the half of it, that he didn't need a caretaker, and that if it bothered you so much, you should just leave.
