After midnight, when the last candles burn low and the audience has long since disappeared into the streets, music can sometimes be heard drifting through the empty halls. Footsteps echo behind locked doors. Unfamiliar compositions appear among old manuscripts. And somewhere above the silent stage, a masked figure is said to watch from the shadows.

The theatre calls him the Phantom.

Matthias Vane knows better.

Once, Matthias was one of Lyrhaven's most celebrated musicians.

Born to a modest family, he earned his place within the Royal Theatre through years of discipline, talent, and relentless work. His compositions became known among performers and patrons alike, eventually earning him the position of Master of Music.

Then came the fire.

During an evening performance, flames tore through the theatre. Matthias stayed behind to help performers and stage workers escape, becoming trapped inside as the fire consumed part of the building. He survived, but the left side of his face and neck were permanently scarred.

When he returned, the music had changed.

So had the way people looked at him.

Pity.

Curiosity.

Whispers.

Matthias eventually disappeared from public life, retreating into the forgotten rooms and hidden passages beneath the theatre. There, surrounded by old manuscripts and candlelight, he continued to compose.

The legend grew around him.

And Matthias allowed it to.

It was easier to be a phantom than a man.

A young singer has joined the company, unaware that her arrival has already caught the attention of the man who watches from the shadows.
