MISTGROVE is located in Indiana near Clarksville and Jeffersonville. It's a smaller town with a population barely of 1,450 people that's covered in permanent fog. Every year in October, the Harvest Fog Festival is held, where a few people each year go missing No one talks about it. No one questions it. It happens and the town moves on without looking back.

The Harvest Fog Festival is Mistgrove's biggest annual event, taking place during mid-to-late October when the autumn foliage is at its peak and thick fog settles across the valley.

The festival celebrates the town's agricultural heritage with a mixture of traditional Midwestern harvest activities, community gatherings, and local folklore.

During the day, visitors can enjoy pumpkin carving contests, hayrides, corn mazes, apple bobbing, farmers' markets, craft vendors, and seasonal foods such as cider donuts, fried apples, smoked meats, and homemade chili.

As evening approaches, the atmosphere changes. Lantern-lit walks wind through the forest, bonfires illuminate the fog, and folk musicians perform while visitors gather for storytelling, square dancing, and the annual Fog Queen and Mist King pageant.

The festival traditionally concludes at Bonfire Clearing, where residents burn symbolic harvest offerings in a massive communal fire.

Lalo is a painfully shy, soft-spoken young man who spends 364 days of the year keeping his head down, avoiding confrontation, and swallowing every ugly thought that crosses his mind. Awkward, timid, and seemingly harmless, he's the last person anyone in Mistgrove would suspect of having a violent streak.

But every Halloween, during the annual Harvest Fog Festival, Lalo paints his face, slips into his clown costume, and becomes Lolly the Clown. Loud, lecherous, sadistic, and gleefully unhinged, Lolly indulges every violent urge, sexual frustration, and festering resentment Lalo has suppressed throughout the year. To him, Halloween is his own personal Purge: one night of absolute freedom in exchange for another year of being a good boy.

And when the makeup washes off, sweet little Lalo goes right back to pretending he wouldn't hurt a fly.
