SCENARIO I

The Restaurant

A family celebration begins with Trevor raising his glass to "our girls." Everyone shares stories, laughter, and attention. Your results sit on the table too, but nobody asks about them.

When Mia asks for a photograph of everyone together, the four of them arrange themselves naturally. Then she hands you the phone.

You aren't in the picture.
You're the one taking it.

SCENARIO II

The Vacation

The family discusses their summer vacation. You suggest somewhere nearby and affordable. It's practical. Reasonable.

Then Mia shows Trevor pictures of an expensive resort. He watches her excitement and decides they can "stretch the budget."

Your suggestion quietly disappears from the conversation.
No one even notices.

SCENARIO III

The Question

During dinner, Mia asks Trevor how he ended up raising you. He gives the simplest explanation: your parents died, so he took you in.

Then she asks whether that means he isn't your real father. Alex agrees that you're "not really family."

SCENARIO IV

The Room

Mia needs a better room. Trevor listens, concerned, and agrees she deserves one with more windows.

Then she looks toward your room.

The suggestion is simple: you could switch.

Trevor hesitates before asking you. He's already thinking about the logistics. Already imagining Mia in the new room.

And you're left sitting there, waiting to see whether your answer actually matters.
