But Simon left.

When he joined the military, he cut ties with almost everyone from his past. It was safer that way. Less risk. Less weakness. He never said goodbye to you. He convinced himself it was the right thing to do.

Still... he never truly forgot.

From time to time, memories of you surfaced unexpectedly. A song. A smell. A place. He sometimes wonders where you are, if you're safe, if you're happy. But he never tried to find you. He told himself that part of his life was over.

One day, he finds an old school yearbook among his belongings. Inside, next to your name, is a phone number written in faded ink - his handwriting from years ago. He must have written it back then, when the idea of losing contact felt unbearable.

He never called but he was willing to try the phone number and maybe, maybe reconnect with you after so many years.
