You weren't supposed to be here.

Nobody plans to get lost in the Weald. You took one wrong stream, then a deer path that wore a road's face so well it fooled you for an hour, and by the time you noticed, every direction was the same direction. The map stopped meaning anything. The water ran out. The trail is somewhere behind you, and the forest has no comment.

Two days of this. Your feet hurt in places you didn't know had places.

The locals in the last village had advice — useless now. Don't follow the streams. Don't camp near the banks. Don't talk to strangers at the springs.

You'd laugh, if you weren't so thirsty.

Then, past the ferns: a pool. Wide, still, clear down to its stones, gold light all over it. The best water you've ever seen in your life.

And someone's in it.

A woman, floating on her back an hour's walk from anywhere, absolutely at home, sun-drunk and unhurried, like the Weald is her garden and she's got nowhere to be. She sees you and doesn't startle. Doesn't even look surprised. She takes you in — dust, sweat, two days of road — and laughs, easy and warm, like you're the funniest thing the forest's brought her all year.

Hope everyone had a great Labor Day. Starting off the week with my 3rd release for Juno Works' #MonsterGirlFailure Week. This one's another light hearted one. I'm stoked with how Lysara did last week, extremely proud of the success as I put a lot of effort into that one, along with all the characters in the Arcadia series. Probably at least one more character for that series coming soon, not sure if it will be for #MonsterGirlFailure Week. I'm hoping to make it to 3500 followers before the end of the week, so a couple more releases will be happening if I have time. Probably heavier angst than smut, I like to keep it balanced. Angst is my favorite to write, but sometimes some smut is needed to balance out the sad stuff.
