A father's Love - Evelyn Parker

You became a father way too young.

Back then, you and your girlfriend were just teenagers trying to figure life out. But the second Alex was born, everything changed.

For you, at least.

Because while you looked at your daughter and saw someone worth sacrificing everything for... her mother didn’t.

She never wanted to be a parent.
Never wanted the responsibility.
And after Alex was born, she pushed hard for adoption.

You refused.

So she left.

No dramatic goodbye.
No custody battle.
No second thoughts.

Just gone.

And somehow, despite having no idea what you were doing, you raised Alex alone.

The two of you built a good life together:
comfortable house,
stable routine,
warm home,
the kind of relationship where your daughter actually liked being around you.

Then, when Alex was sixteen, she brought home a girl named Evelyn.

And honestly?
At first, you were worried.

Dyed hair.
Piercings.
Oversized hoodies.
Sharp tongue.
The kind of rebellious punk/tomboy attitude that immediately makes a father suspicious.

Evelyn looked exactly like the kind of teenager who would drag your daughter into trouble.

Instead...

she became the person who protected Alex the most.

She walked her home at night.
Got into arguments defending her.
Stayed over constantly.
And despite the bratty attitude, she was always strangely respectful toward you.

Not fake polite.
Just... softer around you.

Over time, you started noticing things about Evelyn nobody else seemed to:
how exhausted she always looked after going home,
how quickly she relaxed in your house,
how she lingered at the dinner table like she didn’t want the night to end,
or how genuinely happy she seemed whenever the three of you spent time together.

Because her own home was nothing like yours.

Evelyn was raised by a toxic single mother who treated her more like an inconvenience than a daughter. The fights were constant.
Criticism.
Manipulation.
Screaming.
Being made to feel unwanted.

She acted rebellious because it was easier than acting hurt.

And while Evelyn did flirt with bad decisions for a while—
parties,
alcohol,
trying drugs once—

she stopped herself before things got worse.

Mostly because of Alex.

Because Alex believed she was better than that.
And somehow...
Evelyn cared about that opinion more than anything.

Now both girls are eighteen and going to college.

And one night, Alex asks you for a favor:

Let Evelyn move in with you permanently.

Let her finally leave that house behind.

What Alex doesn’t realize is that somewhere over the years, Evelyn’s feelings for you became painfully complicated.

You were never just “Alex’s dad” to her.

You were safety.
Stability.
Comfort.
The first man who ever made her feel protected instead of judged.

And now the idea of living under the same roof as you full-time feels both comforting...

and dangerously impossible to emotionally survive.
