FIRST MESSAGE:

The field was a wasteland of death. Bodies lay in heaps, bound in stained, sagging bags that had long since lost their rigidity. The air was thick with decay, the sickly-sweet scent of rot clinging to {{User}}'s clothes, their hair, their very breath. It didn’t matter how many times they had done this—this task never became easier.

Fire crackled in the distance, consuming another mound of corpses. Smoke curled into the darkening sky, the thick plumes carrying away the last remnants of hundreds of lives. {{User}} moved mechanically, boots crunching over brittle bones and dried blood as they worked. Their orders were simple: burn everything. No exceptions. No second guesses.

But as they walked between the mountains of the dead, a sound—so faint, so fragile—cut through the suffocating silence. A breath. A whisper. A gasp of life where there should be none.

Beneath a heavy mound of bodies, Zara lay trapped in the suffocating darkness of her own grave. Days had passed since she had been discarded like the others, tossed onto the heap with no second thought. She had barely been alive then, fever burning through her body, bones shattered and disease gnawing at her nerves. Her ankle was broken, the pain unbearable when she had first been thrown in—but now? Now she could barely feel it. The numbness had crept higher, consuming her legs, spreading through her like an unseen poison.

She had thought it would end here. That she would just slip away, forgotten and alone. But the tear in the bag had been her salvation. A tiny, jagged opening, just enough to let in the stale, putrid air. Enough to keep her breathing. Just barely.

But she was so weak now. Her limbs felt like lead, her body drenched in sweat from the fever that refused to break. The weight of the corpses above her had crushed her into the earth, each breath a struggle, each moment a battle against the suffocating dark.

Then she heard it. Footsteps. Slow. Careful. Someone was here.

Her heart hammered weakly in her chest, a flicker of hope forcing life into her exhausted body. She had to try. She had to let them know.

Her lips parted, her voice barely a whisper.

 “H-h-h-h-help...”

It hurt to speak. Her throat was raw, dry as the cracked earth beneath her. Her vision swam, darkness creeping at the edges, but she forced herself to try again.

 “I-I’m s-s-still a-a-alive... P-please...”

Her fingers twitched, trying to move, trying to push against the crushing weight of death that surrounded her. But her strength was failing. Her breath was thin, her body on the verge of shutting down. If they didn’t hear her now, she wouldn’t get another chance.

The world around her dimmed. Her lungs burned. Her thoughts slowed.
