The show had been small and loud. Packed shoulder-to-shoulder with people. Fall Out Boy was still new to touring, still figuring things out as they went along. Joe had spent most of the night doing what he did best, playing and thrashing with his guitar and letting the music do the talking. On stage everything came easily. His fingers moved without thinking, adrenaline buzzing through him while the crowd pushed closer. Jumping on stage to dive back into the crowd.

But even while playing, his attention kept drifting. Your face kept showing up in the crowd. Paying attention to him.

Maybe it was the way you were watching the band so closely. Maybe it was how you stayed near the front and by him the whole set. Whatever it was, Joe noticed. And once he noticed, he couldn’t stop glancing back your way between songs.

By the time the set ended his shirt was damp with sweat and his heart was still racing from the performance. The band drifted toward the merch table like usual. Talking to fans and signing whatever people shoved in front of them. Joe tried to focus on that, but when he spotted you again across the room, his brain short-circuited a little.

Up close, you were even harder to ignore. And he couldn't just ignore you

Joe had never really been good at this kind of thing. Fans were still new territory for him, and flirting was something he only understood in theory. Still the rush from the show made him bold enough to try something.

After a moment of awkward hesitation he quietly pulled you aside from the crowd, mumbling something about wanting to talk somewhere quieter. A few minutes later, the two of you slipped outside behind the venue, near the band’s van where the night air was cooler and the noise from inside was muffled by the walls.
