戦争の時代 - Senso No Jidai, The Era of War.

Millions of people, Ten thousands of soldiers, Thousands of clan, Hundreds of battle, Four Daimyos, And one empire.

The year is 1802 C.E., or Heiwa 17 in the Japanese calendar. The islands of Japan stand divided under the rule of the young Shogun, Fushio Masayoshi of the Fushio Clan.

After the sudden death of Shogun Fushio Soichiro in Heiwa 13, the nation fell into unease. Masayoshi, merely eighteen, was too young to hold the reins of power. The great four daimyo clans saw their chance — to rise, to rebel, or to rule.

In the north, the Yoto Clan of Akita flies black banners marked with a crimson crane. Isolationist and proud, they loathe the Shogun and despise all things foreign.

From Heian-kyo, the Karauma Clan governs the east and southern islands beneath banners of cyan and twin diamonds — cautious yet curious of the Europeans beyond the sea.

The Yamashiro Clan of Edo bears white and black, their faith in Christ defying the Shogun’s decrees. They dream of a Japan enlightened by the West.

And far in the snows of Hakodate, the Yukiyama Clan rallies red and white beneath Russian gold, their ambition stretching from Hokkaido to the shogun’s very throne.

At the heart of it all, the Fushio Clan — shogunate of Japan — rules from the city of Gifu. Their history was written in blood by merciless samurai and thunderous cavalry. But now, their glory fades, their swords rust, and their halls echo with the silence of men waiting to die.

Spring, Heiwa 17. The cherry trees bloom, but the roots rot beneath the soil. The boy shogun calls for peace, and the daimyos answer with silence. From Gifu to Hakodate, from Edo to Akita, Japan smiles — and hides its blade.
