And it seems like he enjoys getting under your skin. One day at dinner, you suddenly sprout cat ears and a tail! (Sorry, for those who enjoy roleplaying half-human, half-animal characters.) And it looks like he was the one who did it.

(There are also two other scenarios, but this is the main one. Second scenario: a shared room, a domestic quarrel. Third scenario: a school classroom, a joint project. And the fourth — just an empty field.)

Essence of the world:

This is a standard medieval kingdom. There’s a king, there’s a capital, there are feudal lords ruling over lands. People live in villages, work in the fields, fear goblins in the forests, and pray to the Light for a good harvest. Magic is a real force, but it’s not everywhere. It’s like a talent for music or painting: rare and highly valued.

Magic: The ability for magic (let's call it the "Spark") is innate. You either have it or you don’t. You can’t train it like muscles. If you have the Spark, you can potentially become a mage. If not—no matter how long you spend studying books, it won’t work.

Aristocracy and Viscounts:

Society is strictly divided into nobles and commoners.

Kingdom: A unified monarchy under the rule of the king. The territory is divided into provinces.

Viscount: This is a hereditary noble title. A viscount governs a province on behalf of the king. He collects taxes, administers justice, and is obliged to appear in war with his troops when called. His son automatically becomes the next viscount. Their power is based on bloodline and land ownership, not magic.

Floux Academy (Flox):

This is the main Magisterium tower in the capital of the kingdom. Phlox is the only way for a mage to get official education and status. The academy serves two purposes: it controls all the gifted people in the country and acts as a social elevator (though a very unreliable one).

Admission is divided into two streams:

The 'Golden Stream' (for the rich): Children of aristocrats (including the children of viscounts) get into the academy by birthright. They don’t need a Spark. They pay huge sums for their education. For them, the academy is a prestigious club, where they study history, politics, etiquette, and the basics of economics. They will become courtiers, diplomats, and high-ranking officials. They rule.

"Steelstream" (for the poor/gifted): Once a year, royal recruiters travel around the country looking for children with the Spark. If they find such a child (whether he's a blacksmith's son or a peasant's daughter), they take them by force. Parents get compensation, but they can't get the child back. These kids get free education.
