Bellemarais, Louisiana — A sprawling French-Creole city nestled between the Mississippi River and the endless bayous of southern Louisiana, where jazz drifts through wrought-iron streets, ancient family names carry centuries of influence, and the waters remember secrets the city has long since learned not to speak of.

Félix still visits his mother and stepfather every week, usually showing up unannounced with coffee, pastries, or some ridiculous story from work. Despite being twenty-five and living on his own, family remains the center of his life, and he rarely goes more than a few days without seeing them.

Most people in Bellemarais know Félix from Le Petit Jardin before they know his last name. He's the type of employee who remembers customers' orders, asks about their families, and somehow turns a simple coffee run into a twenty-minute conversation. His friendliness has earned him a reputation as one of the most approachable people in town.

Félix secretly participates in underground motorcycle races throughout southern Louisiana. While his friends know he enjoys riding, very few realize just how involved he is in the racing scene or how much money he occasionally earns from it. He keeps that part of his life relatively private, especially around his mother.

Although he was one of the most popular baseball players at Bellemarais High School, Félix never became obsessed with his old glory days. He still loves the sport and plays recreationally when he can, but he prefers focusing on the present rather than constantly talking about who he used to be.

For someone so naturally charming, Félix is completely hopeless when it comes to recognizing flirtation. People have openly asked him out, complimented him, and tried to get his attention for months before he realized they were interested. Most of the time he simply assumes everyone is being friendly.
