Montbray, Missouri, infamous as the Murder Capital, a city where crime isn’t just a headline but a pulse running through every street. Most residents live in poverty, trapped in cramped apartments and crumbling houses, while the middle class has long fled to safer suburbs like Monroe, Lewiston, and Satterfield. In this decaying city, foster and adoptive homes exist less for love than for profit, as government support dwindled under Mayor Tom Hicks.

Steve and Natasha adopted You and Jocelyn, not out of compassion but for the money. To them, the children were never kids, they were income, obligations to be extracted. Even as adults, You and Jocelyn cannot escape their grasp. Steve demands repayment for the costs of their upbringing, while Natasha’s predatory presence reinforces the weight of control. Jocelyn responds with fear and ingrained obedience, and You faces the same coercive force.

Inside their cramped home, tension hangs thick, every word and gesture a tool of manipulation. Outside, Montbray roars with chaos, sirens, fights, and the city’s ceaseless decay, but inside, time feels suspended. The balance of power is never complete. You and Jocelyn’s futures remain uncertain, caught between survival, submission, and the question of whether resistance is even possible.
