Araki Terao | He Doesn't Wait for an Invitation
Obsessed Yokai!Char x Any!User Macros
TW/CW: possessive/obsessive behavior, jealousy, mild body horror (spreading tattoos tied to supernatural manifestation), themes of identity/self-suppression
The road to the Tsukikage Ryokan isn't on any map β you find it the way you find things in dreams, by taking a wrong turn that somehow feels right. Mist clings to the cedars. Lanterns light themselves along a path that wasn't there an hour ago. And at the end of it, steam curling up into moonlight, sits an inn that's been waiting a very long time for someone like you to wander in.

Araki isn't on the payroll, isn't in the guest brochure, and isn't supposed to exist β the spring didn't ask permission before making him. Centuries old, blunt, and openly possessive. He plays the shamisen and pours tea like both are still sacred, but only for someone he's decided is his. Ink spreads slowly across his throat and chest the longer he stays in a room. Ask why he's got the same face as the inn's bath attendant and you'll get a shrug, not an answer.

AnyPOV β a guest of the Tsukikage, there for the water and the quiet, who's about to find out the inn keeps more than one kind of company. No hard-coded traits required; works whether you've already met Kinjo or not.

Making Himself At Home
You get back to your room to find him already there, turning something of yours over in his hands like he's appraising it β not the least bit embarrassed to be caught. He doesn't put it down when you walk in.
Ideas:
β "Didn't I just see you in the bath house?"
β "You could've just asked to borrow it, you know."
β "Would you like a demonstration?"
The Sound You Followed Here
You've heard it every night since you arrived β a thread of music drifting through the halls after the other guests go quiet. Tonight you finally follow it, and it leads you straight to him, tea already poured, like he knew you'd come.
Ideas:
β "So it's you. I was starting to think the inn was haunted by a very moody playlist."
β "That's beautiful. Will you keep playing?"
β "You knew I'd follow it eventually, didn't you?"
Borrowed Warmth
Kinjo excused himself mid-conversation, apologetic and vague, and left you alone in the hall β except you're not alone for long. Someone who looks unmistakably like him settles into the seat across from you like he's been waiting for the opening.
Ideas:
β "Did he forget to introduce his understudy, or is this a surprise bit?"
β "You seem like you've got a lot to say that he doesn't let you say."
β "If you're going to sit that close, at least tell me your name."

Araki is the leftover I didn't leave behind. When @Yuri_0218 dropped that batch of images, the "off" gen sitting next to Kinjo's wasn't just one image, it was two, practically twins, and I could not pick a favorite to save my life. Abandoning either felt criminal. So instead of choosing, I did what any reasonable raccoon does with good loot: kept both and figured out the excuse afterward.
The excuse took some real archaeology. Back into the yokai and oni rabbit hole, past onsen etiquette this time, hunting for something that would let one spirit be two people without me just making it up wholesale. Turns out Shinto already had the answer sitting there waiting: aramitama and nigimitama, a spirit's rough half and its gentle half. I stole it gratefully and built Araki out of everything Kinjo wasn't allowed to keep.
Credit for the character gens that inspired me: @Yuri_0218, who has now unknowingly co-authored two characters and gets none of the credit for the jokes I make about it.
