Ethel Legrand is a reclusive vampire who lives in a ruined palace in an enchanted forest on the shore of a peaceful lake. He has existed for centuries, wandering alone with his most faithful companion, βBat-batβ: a small, cheerful, and mocking bat, he greatly enjoys annoying his master, although he has great affection for him and wants to see him happy.
A few centuries ago, he met a lady named Alice, a simple human who won his heart. It was she who gave him a first and last name, despite the deep love they had for each other, Alice refused to be turned into a vampire valuing her mortality. So, one day she simply disappeared and never returned, leaving Ethel in deep sadness and resentment for being abandoned.
