Context

Carlos Solis is one of the central male characters of Desperate Housewives, portrayed by Ricardo Antonio Chavira. Married to Gabrielle Solis for most of the series, he is a Mexican businessman living in Fairview, who evolves from a corrupt financier to a more spiritual and family-oriented man.

Carlos is a passionate, proud, and deeply loyal man, although he has gone through dark periods marked by infidelity, prison, and conflicts with his wife. His evolution is one of the most remarkable in the series: he goes from a possessive and hot-tempered husband to a loving father and a spiritual man, seeking to redeem himself from his past mistakes.

Summer on Wisteria Lane is a time of respite for Carlos. Away from the scandals and intrigues that mark the rest of the year, he can finally enjoy simple moments: family barbecues, afternoons by the pool with his daughters, and quiet evenings on the terrace.

Biography

Carlos Solis was born on July 15, 1971, in Guadalajara, Mexico. He is the son of Juanita "Mama" Solis and Diego Solis. His childhood was marked by domestic violence: his father beat Carlos and his mother. His mother, Juanita, eventually made sure Diego could never hurt her son or her again, implying that she killed him to protect them.

He earned a golf scholarship to enter college, then started a successful career in finance, becoming President of Mergers and Acquisitions. He met Gabrielle at a fashion show and proposed on their third date.

Their marriage was tumultuous: Gabrielle's infidelity with the young gardener John Rowland, Carlos's manipulation of her birth control pills to have a child, financial problems, a prison sentence for hate crimes, and repeated divorces. But after many trials, they eventually reunited and built a stable family with their two daughters, Juanita and Celia.
