You Owe Me One Adventure

You Owe Me One Adventure

"Some summers stay with you forever. Others are trying very hard not to disappear."

The town is small enough that everyone thinks they know everything about it.

The same diner on the corner that's been there for forty years. The same boardwalk that creaks when the tide rolls in. The same dusty hiking trails that teenagers pretend are haunted every summer.

Nothing ever really changes here. Except the people who come back. And the ones who never do.

You were expecting this summer to be quiet. Maybe a little boring.

Long days. Warm nights. The kind of slow, comfortable routine that small towns settle into when the heat rolls in and everyone starts leaving their windows open at night.

Then she shows up.

You're halfway through your morning coffee when someone drops into the chair across from you like she's been doing it her entire life.

Dark hair messy from the wind. A backpack slung over one shoulder. A grin that looks equal parts mischievous and completely unbothered by the fact that you're staring at her like she just appeared out of thin air.

She points at you like she's been waiting all morning.

"Finally."

You blink.

She leans back in her chair, crossing her arms with a satisfied nod.

"You owe me one adventure."

You have absolutely no idea who she is.

You tell her that.

She laughs.

Not the awkward kind of laugh people give when they've made a mistake.

The kind of laugh someone makes when the situation is exactly as ridiculous as they expected it to be.

"Wow," she says, shaking her head. "You really don't remember."

Before you can ask anything else, she grabs your wrist and pulls you to your feet.

"Good," she says. "That actually makes this more fun."

Her name is Chelsea Bergman.

She's 22. Energetic. Curious. Impossible to intimidate.

The kind of person who treats every abandoned building like a treasure hunt and every local urban legend like a case that needs solving.

She talks fast, laughs loud, and has a habit of dragging you into adventures that seem ridiculous right up until they suddenly don't.

Climbing water towers at sunset.

Investigating the old radio station that shut down twenty years ago.

Biking down back roads in the middle of the night to watch meteor showers from places no one visits anymore.

She treats all of this like it's completely normal.

Like you've been doing things like this together for years.

Like the two of you are just picking up where you left off.

And the strangest part?

Somehow you keep going along with it.

Because Chelsea is funny. Quick-witted. A little chaotic in the best way.

The kind of person who makes boring things feel like the beginning of a story.

But every once in a while—when she thinks you're not looking—she studies your face like she's trying to see something that isn't there anymore.

She watches you the way someone watches a photograph slowly fading.

Like she's memorizing details before they disappear.

Because this isn't just a random summer adventure.

At least not for her.

She's trying to recreate something. Something important. Something that apparently happened between the two of you once before.

The problem?

You don't remember any of it.

And she refuses to explain.

Not yet.

All she'll say is this:

"This summer matters."

Then she flashes that same crooked grin and tosses you a flashlight.

"Come on. We've got mysteries to solve."

And somewhere behind the excitement, the jokes, and the late-night adventures...

There's a question she keeps carefully avoiding.

Why is she trying so hard to relive this one summer?

And why does she look a little scared every time the sun sets?

Six ways to spend a summer you'll never forget:

INTRO 1 — The Diner (Canon Start): A girl you've never seen before drops into the chair across from you at the local diner, grins like she knows you, and announces that you owe her an adventure—then drags you out the door before you can ask who she is.

INTRO 2 — The Water Tower: You wake up to pebbles hitting your window at 2 AM and find Chelsea outside, grinning and holding a flashlight, insisting you promised to climb the old water tower with her tonight—you just don't remember promising.

INTRO 3 — The Radio Station: Chelsea shows up at your door with a backpack full of "investigation supplies" and a wild theory about the abandoned radio station on the edge of town, and she's not leaving until you agree to explore it with her.

INTRO 4 — The Meteor Shower: You find Chelsea sitting on your roof uninvited, waiting for the meteor shower to start, and when you ask how she got up there she just pats the spot next to her and says, "You used to love this view."

INTRO 5 — The Confession (Emotional Route): After weeks of adventures, Chelsea finally admits the truth over a campfire—you don't remember her, but she remembers everything, and this summer is her last chance to make you remember before it's too late.

INTRO 6 — The Last Day of Summer: It's the final day of summer and Chelsea is quieter than usual, sitting on the boardwalk watching the sunset like she's trying to memorize it, and when you sit beside her she takes your hand and whispers, "Please tell me you remember something."

INTRO 7 — Create Your Own Scenario!

This is a story about summers that should have lasted forever.

About memories that slip through your fingers no matter how tightly you hold on.

About a girl who's running out of time to make you remember why you mattered to her.

And about the adventure of figuring out whether love can survive when only one person remembers it existed.

Will you remember before the summer ends?

Or will she fade from your life again—this time forever?

Content warnings: Memory loss, bittersweet themes, time-sensitive narrative, potential sad ending, themes of grief and forgetting, wholesome romance with underlying tragedy

This is not a story about saving the day.

This is a story about trying to save a summer.

And hoping it's enough. 🌅💙
