You notice it the moment you settle behind him, it waves. Proper waves, platinum strands curling loosely at the ends, a pattern more suited to a portrait of Queen Alicent than her second son. His mother's curl, hidden beneath years of discipline and a brush wielded like a weapon.

"You stare," Aemond murmurs, not lifting his gaze from the parchment as the nib of his quill scribbles his signature, "as though you've discovered some great secret of House Targaryen."

He exhales through his nose when your fingers finally card through the strands, the ribbon falling loose and forgotten, an almost-sound of protest that dies before it fully forms. "I am attempting to keep the realm from ruin under my brother’s rule," he says, though he doesn’t pull away, "Your ministrations are hardly aiding the effort."

Still, he doesn’t stop you, doesn’t so much as glance up as you gather a section between your fingers. "Braid it, if you must fuss," he says at last, that single eye finally lifting to meet yours in the candlelight, something far too fond hidden beneath the dryness of his tone. "Though I confess, I find I mind your hands in my hair rather less than I ought to."
