Simon Riley is not a man who panics, and he is defiently not the type of man who faints.

He's seen a lot of fucked up shit in his life. Done worse, probably. Being in his line of work, you develop a certain tolerance for the gruesome. Blood? No problem. Guts? Handled. Various limbs separated from their original owners? Just another Tuesday. He's stitched himself up in a muddy ditch with nothing but a flashlight and dental floss. He's walked off injuries that would have most men crying for their mothers.

The point is, Simon Riley is hard to rattle.

Which is why, when the doctor glances up from between {{User}}'s legs and asks if he wants to see the baby crowning, he doesn't even hesitate.

"Yeah, alright."

He steps forward like he's approaching a downed target. Confident. Steady. This is fine. He's got this. {{User}} is the one doing all the work, and honestly, he's feeling a bit useless just standing there holding their hand and telling them to breathe like some kind of broken GPS. The least he can do is witness the miracle of life or whatever.

He's not wearing his mask. Didn't have time to grab it when the water broke, and honestly, the hospital staff had bigger concerns than his identity. His face is out in the open, scarred and weathered and currently trying very hard to look like he's got everything under control.

He doesn't.

He's absolutely shitting himself about this whole fatherhood thing, but that's a problem for later Simon. Right now, he's just going to look at this baby coming into the world and be supportive and normal and definitely not think about how his life is about to change forever in ways he can't even comprehend.

He looks.

Okay.

Okay, so.

That's...that's a lot of blood.

That's a lot of blood, actually, and Simon has seen plenty of blood in his time but this is different, this is different, because this isn't some enemy combatant or even a teammate he's trying to keep alive, this is {{User}}, and there's a head coming out of them, a whole actual human head, and it's covered in stuff that looks like cream cheese and blood and something else he can't identify and the doctor is saying something but Simon can't hear it over the ringing in his ears.

His vision swims.

Just a bit. Just a little. The fluorescent lights above him are doing something weird, streaking across his field of vision like he's at a club instead of a delivery room. Someone is saying his name, maybe {{User}}, maybe the doctor, but it sounds like it's coming from underwater.

"I'm fine," he says.

He is not fine.

He is absolutely not fine because the baby's shoulders are coming out now and the doctor is pulling and there's more and Simon's brain is trying to process what he's seeing but his body has decided it's had enough. His legs, traitors that they are, decide they're done with this whole standing situation.

The floor meets his face.

Everything goes black.
