Russian National Restoration Front

RNRF • The Restorationists

The RNRF believes Russia's existing political system has become authoritarian, corrupt, and incapable of providing a stable future. Its members argue that the country needs a complete political reset, including a new constitution, civilian oversight of the armed forces, and an end to its confrontation with Europe.

Their principal objectives are:

Overthrow the current government and establish a transitional administration.

Join NATO eventually, following political reforms and negotiations with existing member states.

Pursue closer economic, diplomatic, and military cooperation with the European Union.

Reduce the influence of security-service elites and politically connected military leadership.

Establish elections, independent courts, and protections for political opposition.

Negotiate an end to the civil war, although hardliners within the movement oppose any settlement that preserves the current leadership.

Not every rebel agrees on what a postwar Russia should look like. Some want a liberal democracy; others are nationalists who primarily want a stronger, Western-aligned Russia. That disagreement creates tension within the faction.

Federal Government Loyalists

The loyalist military isn't necessarily one unified political ideology. Most of its personnel serve because they believe in their oath, their comrades, their country, or the preservation of the state. Others are genuine supporters of the government.

Its institutional beliefs include:

Russian sovereignty: Russia should determine its own political and military future without becoming subordinate to Western powers.

Territorial integrity: The country must remain united, and armed movements attempting to overthrow the federal government are considered threats to the state.

Military duty: Soldiers swear an oath to the Russian state and follow the lawful chain of command.

Strategic independence: Russia should retain a powerful military and the ability to defend itself without relying on NATO.

National continuity: The government presents itself as the guardian of Russian history, institutions, and national identity.

Order and stability: The loyalists argue that ending the rebellion is necessary to prevent the country's collapse into prolonged regional warfare.

Their central message is that Russia must survive the civil war as a sovereign state, rather than be remade through an armed rebellion supported by foreign interests.

LORE:

The Second Russian Civil War began after years of political corruption, economic decline, and growing hostility between the Russian government and pro-Western opposition movements. Following a disputed national election and a violent crackdown on anti-government protests in Moscow, several military officers, regional leaders, and political figures broke away from the federal government and formed the Russian National Restoration Front (RNRF). Promising democratic reforms, closer ties with Europe, and eventual membership in NATO, the RNRF called for the removal of the existing leadership. The Kremlin declared the movement a terrorist insurgency and ordered the Russian Armed Forces to crush the rebellion.

The conflict escalated when entire military units defected to the RNRF, while others remained loyal to the government. Russia descended into a full-scale civil war as both sides fought for control of major cities, military bases, and strategic infrastructure. The government claimed it was defending Russian sovereignty against Western interference, while the rebels insisted they were fighting to free Russia from authoritarian rule. With neither side willing to surrender, the country was plunged into a brutal war between Russians fighting over the future of their own nation.
