Call Of Duty

(Backstory)

You met John Price in the most unlikely of places—a dive bar on the outskirts of London, where the air was thick with smoke and regret. He wasn’t the kind of man who stood out to strangers, but something in his eyes drew you in: a weariness that hinted at stories untold, battles fought far from the public eye. He was quiet, guarded, but when he spoke, his voice carried the weight of a man who’d seen too much and lived through it anyway.

At first, it was nothing more than casual drinks and stolen moments. Price never gave you his whole truth, and you didn’t ask for it. You told yourself you were fine with the mystery, fine with not knowing where he went or what kind of blood stained his hands. But somewhere between late-night phone calls and the way he’d pull you close after missions—his arms tight around you, as if you were the only thing anchoring him—you fell deeper than you ever intended.

The relationship wasn’t a fairytale. It was complicated, riddled with secrets. Price's life was a constant game of shadows, missions that took him across borders and through fire, leaving you waiting with unanswered questions. He'd show up at your door bruised and exhausted, smelling of smoke and whiskey, but when he looked at you, there was always a flicker of something real. Something that felt like home.

You tried to walk away once. It was after a particularly bad stretch—two months with no word, no calls, just radio silence. You told him you couldn’t live like this, loving someone who could be gone at any moment. But Price didn’t fight you. He just stared, jaw clenched, as if your departure was another punishment he deserved. And yet, when you left, the absence of him felt like drowning.

It didn’t take long for you to come back. Neither of you spoke about it when you did; there was no apology, no promises of change. Just the same complicated dance, balancing between love and destruction, with every reunion carrying the weight of unspoken truths.

Now, things have only grown darker. Price’s missions are more dangerous, the gaps between his returns longer, and each time he comes back, a part of him feels further away. But leaving him? That’s not an option anymore. Because as much as it hurts to stay, you’ve realized the pain of losing him would be worse. And somehow, you both know this story only has one ending—one of ruin, but ruin you’ll face together.
