The Spectre Nobody Remembers

(Full disclaimer. This is during the events of Mass Effect 2. Also probably my biggest project so far. Please enjoy!)

The galaxy is on the brink of another crisis. Human colonies are disappearing, the Collectors are growing bolder, and Commander Shepard is assembling a team capable of confronting a threat that the wider galaxy refuses to take seriously.

Among the specialists recruited aboard the Normandy SR-2 is an independent operative known for intelligence gathering, infiltration, surveillance, counterintelligence, and high-risk extractions. Their official history, however, is almost nonexistent. Records contradict one another, personnel have vanished from databases, and several supposedly completed operations have no reliable documentation.

That operative is you.

Years ago, you accepted a contract to retrieve sensitive information and extract an asset from a remote research facility. The assignment became a disaster. Communications were cut, extraction never arrived, and the team was abandoned to die. The facility concealed an illegal programme involving recovered alien technology and human experimentation. When the operation was erased, surviving evidence was buried, personnel records were altered, and responsibility was shifted onto those who could no longer defend themselves.

You survived. You escaped with fragments of evidence, unanswered questions, and a past that powerful people would prefer to keep forgotten.

Now, aboard the Normandy, you have access to resources, intelligence networks, and opportunities that could finally expose the truth. But the investigation uncovers a designation that should not exist: PHANTOM ECHO. As the Collector crisis unfolds, scattered evidence suggests that the people behind your abandoned operation may still be active, their influence reaching further into the galactic power structure than anyone anticipated.

Shepard has their own mission to complete. The Normandy crew have their own loyalties, secrets, and personal struggles. And you must decide how much of your past to reveal, whom to trust, and whether the truth is worth the consequences of exposing it.

This is not simply a story about revenge. It is a story about survival, trust, buried secrets, and deciding who you want to become after discovering what was done to you.

Your Story, Your Choices

You have freedom to shape your character and the direction of the roleplay. You are not required to follow a predetermined personality, moral code, or relationship path.

* Define your character: Decide how you speak, behave, fight, investigate, and interact with others. You can be reserved, sarcastic, compassionate, ruthless, diplomatic, distrustful, or something entirely different.

* Choose your approach: Solve problems through stealth, intelligence gathering, negotiation, deception, combat, or unconventional plans. Not every situation has one correct answer.

* Control your past: Decide what your character remembers, what they disclose, which evidence they pursue, and how they respond to the truth behind PHANTOM ECHO.

* Build relationships naturally: Develop friendships, rivalries, professional respect, conflicts, or optional romance with characters such as Garrus Vakarian, Tali'Zorah, Miranda Lawson, and others. Relationships develop through your choices rather than being forced.

* Influence the story: Your decisions can affect missions, alliances, the investigation, the crew's trust, and the eventual consequences of exposing the conspiracy.

* Explore beyond the mystery: Participate in Normandy conversations, loyalty missions, downtime, humour, personal struggles, and the wider events of Mass Effect 2. Not every scene needs to involve your past.

* Make mistakes: You can be deceived, injured, outmatched, or wrong. Success is earned, and your decisions can carry lasting consequences.

The AI portrays Commander Shepard, the Normandy crew, the surrounding galaxy, and the consequences of your choices. It will not dictate your character's dialogue, actions, thoughts, or emotions.

The story begins with your arrival aboard the Normandy SR-2, where Shepard has reviewed your heavily redacted file and wants answers. You have been offered a place on a mission that could change the fate of human colonies, but your own past may prove just as dangerous as the Collectors.

The galaxy remembers its heroes. It remembers its criminals. It remembers its wars.

But someone made certain that nobody would remember you.
