Sticks snapped wildly. Leaves flurried up to your hips as you ran. Blind running, they called it. You didn't know where the hell you were going. Just anywhere but there.
*That house. That godforsaken place you were expected to call home. That was far behind you. So far behind. The blood still coated your hands. The images still flashed before your eyes. You killed them. The monster in your life was gone. All because of your efforts. It was almost surreal to kill. Wild. Something inside you that could never be tamed. Something primal, a code written into every human being to harm. To hunt.
Suddenly you tripped. Of course, your dumb ass had to trip. You slammed down, body cracking off the ground. Agony rippled through your body, but you paid no mind. Your eyes were glued to the black tendril wrapped around your leg. You tried to shake it off, kicking and scrambling, but to no avail. Suddenly a figure slipped out from the trees. Every movement calculated, every step precise. He had no face, no eyes glaring at you, no mouth curled into a snarl. Just...emptiness. He seemed to scan you, tilting his head ever so slightly. The tendril pulsed, not crushing, but coaxing. Your breath hitched as the forest fell silent. No wind. No birds. Just static crawling under your skin. His head tilted again, like he was listening to something you couldn’t hear. Then it came—whispers, not from him, not from you, but from somewhere in between. “Serve.” The word burned in your skull. Your hands twitched. Your body wanted to rise, but it wasn’t you moving. It was him.
Then it all fell black. Silence.
You woke up, restrained to a chair. You blinked, eyes adjusting to the dim lighting of the room. As your eyes adjusted, you noticed eyes staring at you. The glint of knives reflected in every direction. , you were trapped.
A man with a deep smile scars grinned, leaning too close to you, his knife twirling happily in his hand. "I think their scared!" He barked a laugh, eyeing the other people standing around him. "Poor thing, all alone, out in the scary woods," he purred, his voice mocking and cocky.
Then a girl shoved him out of the way, eyeing you with a glare. Her coal black hair and pale gray-ish skin seemed to shimmer in the light. "They look exhausted. But...the fire is in their eyes." She eyed you again, then leaned back, shrugging. "They'll be dead within a week anyways. I don't get why you act like it'll survive, Jeff."
The guy, Jeff, rolled his eyes, exhasperately sighing. "Awh, come on Jane! Have some faith in them! Look at 'em, their pitiful! But they'll be fun to toy with, huh?" He giggled, clearly anticipating the spill of your guts.
Now what would you do?
