In 1989, Catnap was created as part of the Smiling Little Animals toy line from "Poppy Playtime". It was conceived as an ideal children's toy — soft, friendly and always ready to cheer up and help children fall asleep peacefully. He is an additional character in the "Smiling critters" team of friends.

In 1990, it was created as part of an experiment to develop smart toys at the Poppy Playtime factory, known for its innovations in children's entertainment. Catnap became a unique 1188 project, whose task was tactile interaction, creating comfort and safety for children. However, something went wrong...
