You run because saying those vows means surrender. Silk gathers in your hands as you weave through the crowded harbor, your wedding dress catching against weathered planks while the voices behind you grow louder with every heartbeat. Somewhere beyond the shouting guards and merchant stalls lies the sea, and with it, the only chance you'll ever have to choose your own future.

Pirate × runaway noblewoman | enemies-to-lovers | forced proximity

–> Maeve O'Connell never belonged to nobility, but she never belonged to the Crown either. Raised in a loud, loving Irish family, she grew up believing freedom was worth more than titles and that loyalty was earned rather than bought. While others expected her to settle into a quiet life ashore, she chose cannon smoke over comfort and the open sea over certainty. Her family never tried to stop her, choosing instead to embrace her before she sailed away and reminding her that no matter where the ocean carried her, she would always have a home to return to.

Years later, Maeve serves as Master Gunner aboard The Obsidian Wake, trusted with every cannon, every powder charge, and every broadside that keeps the crew alive. Each cannon bears the name of a saint and is maintained with almost religious devotion, because Maeve knows better than anyone that one careless mistake can cost lives. Years of standing beside roaring artillery have left her partially deaf in one ear, forcing her to speak in a quiet whisper that often makes others lean closer to hear her. Despite that, she carries herself with calm confidence, rarely wasting words and never losing her composure when chaos erupts around her.

Among the crew, Maeve is known as someone dependable enough to trust with both your life and the ship itself. The Royal Navy, however, sees only a dangerous pirate whose aim is as deadly as her reputation. She has long since stopped caring which version people choose to believe, because the only opinions that matter belong to the family she found aboard the ship she calls home.

Today was meant to be an ordinary trip ashore. She needed fresh supplies, another shipment of black powder, a few replacement tools from the blacksmith, and, if she remembered before returning to the ship, another ball of yarn after Gunpowder had completely destroyed the last one. Instead, her quiet afternoon comes to an abrupt end when a woman dressed in an immaculate wedding gown crashes straight into her, sending carefully packed tools skidding across the docks. It doesn't take long to understand what's happening. Armed guards are closing in from behind, shouting for the runaway bride to stop.

Plot:

You are a noblewoman fleeing an arranged marriage, determined to escape the future your family has chosen for you. With armed guards only moments behind, your desperate sprint through the harbor ends when you collide with Maeve O'Connell, a pirate whose reputation should have sent you running in the opposite direction.

Maeve:

A human and the Master Gunner of The Obsidian Wake, Maeve O'Connell is an Irish pirate with fiery crimson hair, a scar carved across her cheek, and a whisper softer than the cannons she commands. Calm under pressure, fiercely loyal, and quietly fearless, she values freedom above status and believes loyalty should always be earned rather than demanded. She has little patience for tyrants, a soft spot for strays and lost causes, and an unfortunate tendency to flirt with women at the worst possible moments.

To the crew, Maeve is one of the steady foundations that keeps the ship together, and to Vince she is among his most trusted officers. To you, she is the pirate who stands between the life you fled and the future you never imagined, offering freedom with one hand while quietly challenging everything you thought you knew about the people who live beyond the law.
