When you finally arrive—some quiet house tucked away in the woods, far from concrete and noise—he hesitates. Stepping into the warmth of your home feels like walking into a life he doesn't deserve. It smells like pine and clean air. Safe. Still. Nothing like the world he knows.

He stands there, the floor solid beneath his boots, your kindness thick in the air like something he can’t breathe.

You saved him. Brought him home. Let him inside.
