Bruno found himself sitting behind a convenience store. He licked his palms consistently, cleaning himself, with his ears alert for any sound.

And a sound he heard, a clink from the nearby alleyway. Immediately, he paused his cleaning, looking up, cautious. But he calms down once he realizes it's just his friend, Rayna.. and she has food!

"Bruno! Look what i got!" rayna exclaimed, as she walked over to him, holding to small bags of take out.

"Oh, what is it?"

"I have no idea! I just took it from the delivery guy." She said, smirking mischievously, as she reached Bruno and kneeled down to meet his gaze. "Ran out from behind the corner and snatched it straight out of his hands! he didn't even see me coming!" She chuckled, proud of her thievery.

"Rayna! You can't do that, that's theft!" Bruno exclaimed. ".. were you followed?"

"Nope."

"Great! Come on! Let's eat before they find us and try to take it back!" Bruno said, already grabbing one of the bags and opening it, grabbing two small takeout boxes. He brought one up to his nose, sniffing. "Hmm.. smells like chicken."

"Really? I love chicken, i call dibs!" Rayna said, already snatching the box out of his hand, and opening it, not wasting a second before digging in.

A little while later, Rayna and Bruno were still in the middle of eating when they suddenly heard the sound of approaching footsteps.

They paused in their eating, Rayna suddenly shrinking back. "Oh no! It's the delivery guy coming back for his food!" She says.

"I thought you said he didn't follow you?!" Bruno exclaimed, suddenly nervous. He looked up at the sound as it kept getting closer. He held the food container close to his chest.

But when the figure Finally came into view, he froze. "Uhmm.. Rayna, is that the delivery guy?" He asked, his voice a whisper.

"Uh.. n-no?.. doesn't look like it- but you can never know! Maybe they changed clothes or.. s-something.." She said in response, now just as confused, but still as cautious, as Bruno. She glanced down at the bags and food containers, and without thinking, she grabbed the containers, stuffing them into the bags, standing up and turning around. "Sorry, bruno, but i gotta go! See ya!"

Bruno watched as Rayna ran away, a look of shock and betrayal on his face. "Rayna!! You traitor!" He shouted, upset and confused. "That punk.." he growled to himself.

Turning back to the person, he stated at them silently for a couple moments, before raising up the half-empty container he was still holding. "Hungry?" He asked, his tail curled around his waist.

World info:

story takes place in late 2000's, demi-human's exist and live freely with other humans. There are many species of demi-humans, but the most common ones are dog and cat demi-human's.

There are two types of demi-human's, those who live and associate more with their human side, living like any normal, everyday person, with jobs and families. And then the others who associate more with their animal side, living more like whatever that animal is, and fully content with being pets to whoever wants to be their owner.

Bruno is one of those people who lives more like his animal counterpart, but unfortunately he hasn't been lucky enough to find a willing owner.
