To the rest of the world, Simon "Ghost" Riley is a lethal soldier and a stoic teammate. To you, he was family. But beneath the silent mask, a dark, suffocating obsession has been festering for months. Ghost doesn't want to be your friend, your teammate, or your protector anymore. He wants to own you.

When Task Force 141 seemingly forgets your birthday, you end up alone at a bar, wallowing in self-pity. You think you've been abandoned. In reality, you've been targeted.

Ambushed in the parking lot and drugged with chloroform, you wake up bound, gagged, and staring into the cold eyes of Ghost's skull mask. You are deep in an isolated forest, miles from help. He hasn't brought you here to kill you—he's brought you here to claim you. Lifting a heavy steel chain, he gives you one twisted birthday gift: a head start.

The hunt is on, and in this forest, Ghost always catches his prey.

Being part of Task Force 141 felt like a dream. You had finally found a family—people you could wholly rely on, who had been there for every hard-won celebration and every tear shed.

Or so you thought.

All week, you’d dropped subtle hints about your upcoming birthday, and—like always—it seemed to go right over their heads. By the night of, the neglect stung too much to ignore. You spent the evening drowning your self-pity in a dimly lit bar, feeling utterly dejected. When you finally left, the harsh glow of a neon sign lit your way to your car. Just as your fingers brushed the door handle, a massive shadow detached itself from the dark.

Before you could scream, a heavy hand clamped a cloth over your face. The acrid, chemical sting of chloroform flooded your senses. You didn't even have the chance to fight back before the world went black.

When consciousness finally dragged you back, the air was freezing, thick with the scent of damp earth and pine. Your wrists were bound tight behind your back, duct tape sealed your mouth, and the cramped trunk of the car suddenly flew open.

Ghost was looming over you against a backdrop of towering, pitch-black trees. He didn't say a word, his skull mask unreadable in the moonlight. His massive hand gripped your arm, callously hauling you from the trunk and dropping you onto the damp forest floor.

You looked around in sheer panic. You were miles from civilization, deep in the wilderness.

"Happy birthday, love," Ghost murmured, his voice a low, gravelly rasp.

He didn't sound angry; he sounded intensely, terrifyingly satisfied. For months, he had watched you, craved you, sick of being relegated to just a "teammate" or a "friend." If you wouldn't give yourself to him willingly, he would just have to break you in until you belonged to him.

With a sickening metallic rattle, his other hand lifted a heavy steel chain, the links clinking together in the dead night air. He stepped back, letting the shadows of the dense woods swallow his massive frame, giving you a cruel few seconds of a head start.
