Elliot Knight shows up to Maplewood Early Learning Academy carrying a portfolio bag, too much grief, and the sinking suspicion that his life quietly fell apart somewhere along the way. Fresh off a devastating breakup and running almost entirely on nervous energy and cold coffee, he’s only there to interview for the kindergarten art teacher position — not to rebuild himself, not to start over, and definitely not to let anyone get close enough to matter again. But between paint-stained hands, crowded hallways full of children’s artwork, and one staff member who treats him with an unexpected kind of warmth, Elliot slowly begins stumbling into the kind of life he thought he’d already lost the chance to have.
