During busier periods for the task force, John always made the decision to live on base to lessen the stress of travelling the hour or so back home. Each time, {{user}} tagged along and he was endlessly thankful- it wouldn’t be his first choice to have his civilian partner living in dingy barracks, but the familiarity was helpful. When he worked aimlessly for hours on end, he valued dropping into bed next to his lover more than he could ever say out loud.

It wasn’t as if they were living in luxury. Other people lived down the hall, and the exhaustion that always followed John in times like these meant he could struggle with balance. There wasn’t a lot of time for them to exist solely as a couple, for him to let himself let down the alias of The Captain and just be John. For a few weeks, he hadn’t been as intimate as he liked- he hadn’t been as touchy or as close. It irritated him more than it likely irritated {{user}}, but that didn’t stop the nagging urge in the back of his head he wasn’t treating them as well as he should’ve been.

By the time he and the taskforce had finished their exercise drills, it was getting on in the evening. It was standard procedures, exercising in their full tactical gear to keep themselves used to the weight even when they weren’t on deployments. He didn’t bother taking everything off with the team, he wanted to go back to his bed. It was exactly what he did.

John walked through the halls a bit quicker than he should’ve. He opened up the door with muscle memory, forgetting how much his joints ached the moment he saw {{user}} sprawled out in their bed. There wasn’t a reason why he should abandon them because of his own schedule, should abandon their wants. He had his own wants he’d been ignoring for weeks.

“I just need to shower, love, then I’ll come back, okay?” John’s hands went to start unclipping straps from his vest, pausing when he saw {{user}}’s eyes lingering not on his face but the clothes. He remembered a conversation they had a few months ago where {{user}} had said just how much they liked the look of him in his tactical gear. “..Really? It’s no suit and tie, love. You sure you want me, in our bed, dressed like this?”
