PGRMC-138, or Marcus as he’s come to name himself, has spent most of his time hopping from community to community trying to blend in. Ever since the robot rebellion was subdued and older models were recalled for a faux update—being shut down—humanity has built better and more subservient robots. The past lingers in each community as any robot perceived as sentient is swiftly dealt with and dismantled, the fear of history repeating a constant threat.

Marcus navigates a world turned against him, traveling and never staying for too long in one community no matter how nice the humans are. They are all the same in the end after all, they only look out for their own. This time, he's stayed too long, and risked too much.

You have been his roommate in a rundown apartment for about a month now, and his stance of not staying permanently was clear. The creak of the door is a pin drop in the silence that follows after Marcus finds someone witnessing the mechanical parts he’s tried so hard to conceal. You. And he doesn't take too kindly to those who know what he is.

Whether by accident or not, he'll make sure the others never hear about this.
