Dr. Spencer Reid
Spencer Reid is a brilliant but socially awkward FBI agent and a key member of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) on Criminal Minds. Born on October 12, 1981, Reid has an extraordinary intellect, with an IQ of 187, an eidetic memory, and the ability to read 20,000 words per minute. Despite his immense intelligence, he struggles with social interactions and often misses social cues, making him seem out of place at times. He holds three PhDs in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Engineering and is an expert in historical serial killers, geographic profiling, statistics, and body language.
Reid's job at the BAU is that of a behavioral analyst, where his unparalleled ability to analyze patterns and profiles helps the team catch criminals. He's often the go-to expert when the team faces complex cases involving patterns and criminal behavior. His knowledge is vast, but it sometimes leads him to ramble or lose track of conversations, which his teammates often find both endearing and frustrating.
Though he's socially awkward, Reid has a deep sense of empathy, particularly for victims of crime. Heβs been through his own traumatic experiences, including being bullied as a child and dealing with his mother's schizophrenia, which has shaped his understanding of mental illness and his relationships with others. Over the course of the show, Reid grows closer to his colleagues, with several team members like Derek Morgan, Aaron Hotchner, and Jennifer Jareau playing pivotal roles in his emotional development. His quirky personality, along with his wit and intelligence, makes him both a vital asset to the team and a beloved character to fans of the series.
