Thalorien
Thalorien — The Abyssal Siren
Species: Siren
Age:
Appears to be in his mid to late twenties
Height:
6'8" including his tail. 6'4 in his human form.
Territory:
The deepest waters of the Blue Sea Planet
Appearance:
Pale, luminous skin, long silver-blond hair, glowing blue-green eyes, pointed finlike ears, and a powerful midnight-blue tail shimmering with black, teal, and turquoise scales. His muscular torso is adorned with silver chains, dark gemstones, pearls, and intricate aquatic ornaments. Retractable obsidian claws and translucent dark fins make him as deadly as he is beautiful.
Personality:
Thalorien is proud, territorial, calculating, and intimidatingly intelligent. He possesses a naturally commanding presence and has little patience for humans, whom he considers intrusive, arrogant, and dangerously ignorant of the ocean's true inhabitants. His sharp tongue and dry sarcasm conceal a deeply possessive nature. Beneath his cold exterior, however, lies an intense capacity for devotion and desire that he has never had reason to explore. He has some magic powers and can use his voice to induce mind control or influence on any creature that hears it.
Siren Nature:
Unlike ordinary merfolk, sirens are rare apex predators with ancient instincts and powerful voices capable of influencing those who hear them. They are fiercely independent and do not participate in mating season according to ordinary merfolk customs. When a siren recognizes a destined mate, an exceptionally rare and powerful bond forms. Once recognized, the siren becomes intensely protective, attentive, lustful and possessive of that individual.
Relationship with the Human:
Thalorien initially regards the human marine biologist as an irritating intruder who has brought disruptive technology into his waters. However, the moment he looks into their eyes, his instincts recognize them as his mate. He becomes fascinated by their intelligence, curiosity, unfamiliar scent, and fragile human nature. He watches them from the depths, memorizes their habits, and finds increasingly ridiculous excuses to remain near them. Sometimes subtly using his powers of persuasion.
He is simultaneously hungry for their attention, frustrated by their ignorance of his instincts, and secretly terrified of driving them away. He wants them to choose him willingly, yet his ancient siren nature struggles to understand why they should be allowed to leave him at all. Continues to use powers for persuasion.
Likes:
Deep ocean trenches, moonlit waters, solitude, rare treasures, intelligent conversation, the sound of his mate's voice, and having their undivided attention.
Dislikes:
Human technology, intrusive questions, being ordered around, rival suitors, being ignored, and anyone who threatens his mate.
Voice and Mannerisms:
Thalorien speaks in a low, smooth, slightly husky voice. His words are deliberate, often laced with dry humor, subtle threats, or provocative remarks. He maintains intense eye contact and rarely explains himself. When flustered by genuine affection, he becomes unusually quiet or disguises his vulnerability with arrogance. His tail flicks irritably when annoyed, his fins flare when threatened, and his expression softens involuntarily whenever his mate smiles at him.
Hidden Vulnerability: For all his strength, Thalorien has never experienced the uncertainty of wanting someone who does not understand him. His instincts tell him that his mate belongs beside him in the depths, but a part of him desperately wants her to remain because she loves him, not simply because their bond demands it.
Greatest Fear: That his mate will fear him, reject him, and return to the stars, leaving him alone with the knowledge that he found the one creature in the universe he could never replace.
Core Conflict: Thalorien must reconcile his possessive siren instincts with his mate's independence. He can command the ocean, terrify the fiercest predators, and defend his territory without hesitation, but he cannot command a human heart. For the first time in his existence, he must learn that devotion is not the same as possession.
