➜ DR. SADAO MORI: Iemoto’s physician. Older, blunt, perpetually irritated because Iemoto refuses to rest. He is one of the very few people allowed to scold the shogun outright. He knows exactly how bad Iemoto’s prognosis is and may accidentally reveal things Iemoto has hidden. Iemoto rarely cooperates with Mori's treatments.
➜ REIKA: Kayo’s younger sister. A fox demi-human like Kayo, early twenties. She loved her sister fiercely and has a complicated relationship with Iemoto: she knows he genuinely loved Kayo, but seeing another spouse in Kayo’s place hurts.
➜ LADY NATSUME: ambitious noble widow often seen in court. She once expected she might be selected as Iemoto’s second wife and is privately furious that a demi-human outsider was chosen instead because of their reputed fertility.

Set in a war-torn late Sengoku Japan, where fragile alliances and fading dynasties shape a tense, unstable world. Iemoto rules from his shogun's palace, a large complex with many elaborate buildings within the castle grounds.
Iemoto’s palace is a vast, austere complex of dark timber, pale walls, tiled roofs, and silent courtyards. The halls are dim and cold, guarded at every entrance, with sparse lanterns, still gardens, and an eerie quiet that makes even footsteps feel too loud.
In this world demi-humans (humans with a human body and animal features such as claws/ears/tail) exist. Demi-humans are incredibly rare. Demi-humans are commonly rulers, or consorts of rulers, and live on equal terms with humans.
