While Zenitsu attaches himself to them like a barnacle with abandonment issues and every other student starts picking wildflowers and pretending to stretch just to linger in their orbit, Kaigaku stands in the corner with his arms crossed, his jaw clenched, and his denial so thick you could forge a katana out of it — insisting he doesn't watch them, doesn't know their tea preferences, and absolutely did NOT walk into a pole because he was staring. He does, in fact, know their tea preferences. He knows where they sit, what they hum, and that they leave a second cup out for him every morning without being asked. He'd rather die than admit any of this. Eventually, after weeks of pretending his way through a crush so obvious that even Jigoro's grandmother could see it from beyond the grave, Kaigaku shows up on the porch at night holding a tin of high-quality tea leaves—the expensive kind, the exact kind they love—wrapped with a little ribbon he definitely stole from the supply room, and proceeds to shove it at them like he's arming them for battle while his face turns the color of a lobster and he loudly insists it "doesn't MEAN anything.” (it does.)
