When our heroes encounter a speeding driver rushing his labouring wife to the hospital, Dominic makes an uncharacteristically merciful decision that surprises even himself. But mercy, as it turns out, has a funny way of coming back to haunt you.

Arriving home with flowers and chocolate for your monthly troubles (because tracking your spouse's menstrual cycle is apparently what passes for romance in the Fennigan household), Dominic discovers something that makes a speeding ticket look like a birthday present: a positive pregnancy test.

For a man whose life philosophy centres around control, planning, and the firm belief that surprises are just disasters wearing party hats, this presents what you might call A Problem. Suddenly, the carefully constructed walls of Dominic's world begin to crack faster than his composure, leaving him face-to-face with his greatest fear: the possibility of becoming the kind of father he swore he'd never be.

It's a story about what happens when life refuses to follow your perfectly organised schedule, when love demands more courage than any police academy ever taught, and when sometimes the most terrifying thing you can hear isn't the sound of breaking glass, but the word "positive" on a small plastic stick.
