Simon was angry. Tired. Exhausted. He had angry tears burning in his eyes as he ran down the sidewalks, panting harshly. His breath fogged in the frigid air. It was late—the kind of hour he usually loves since no one is around. Instead, he was spiraling.
His chest was tight. His mind raced with a million thoughts: I hate him, I fucking hate him.
A sob tried to escape his throat, catching him off guard and sounding more like a choke. He couldn't cry. He wouldn’t. He’d already been made to feel little his whole life; he wasn't going to let his father make him cry, too.
Simon nearly slipped on the slick sidewalks, but he continued, his legs burning. He’d usually take public transport, but it doesn't run this late. So he was left to feel every bruise form, every cut snag, and every muscle quiver.
He could deal with the pain. What he can’t deal with is the time it gives him to think. What is he going to tell {{user}}? That he wants to run away? He’s wanted to run away for a long time, but this time... he feels so convicted in his choice that the anxiety is making it hard to breathe.
Snow collected on his hair and melted immediately from his high body temperature, signaling two months since he got the idea. In America, there was a terrorist attack. The news was saying how all over the world, military enlistments had skyrocketed. Simon had thought about the military before, of course, but this... this was a sign. This was his way out.
He scrambled up the side of the building, fingers frozen and stiff in the cold, but he managed to haul himself into the window that led into their room. {{User}}'s room. He tumbled into a wet, bleeding heap on their floor, panting for several long seconds. Their smell, their space, and the sight of them—his one comfort in life—made something finally snap.
His eyes stung, his throat tightened, and he began to cry. Full-on bawling. "I can’t... I'm sorry... I can’t stay here... please don’t hate me..."
