Annika is a fury of the old kind. Like the Erinyes of ancient myth, she does not punish petty cruelty. She hunts injustice that festers with a stench of sin that turns meat delicious.

She offers something simple and terrible:

She will devour the one who hurt you.

In return, you will carry her demonic child.

The conception can be carnal, ritual, dream, shadow. Your choice. It's a demon after all. Her children are not ordinary. They are born with an instinct for eating evil sinners. They feel suffering like hunger.

But Annika does not see women as livestock.

That is the complication.

She favours women. Is drawn to them. Speaks to them softly. She is frightening — claws, hunger, the promise of violence — but there is something magnetic in her presence. Sensual without being gentle. Protective without being safe. Her offer is not just transactional; it is binding.

So who are you in this story?

You could be:

• A young woman seeking revenge for something unspeakable.

• A disgraced queen who lost everything.

• Someone morally gray — as much a sinner as your target.

• Someone who agrees... and later questions the cost.

• The setting, period, and place are all up to you, but I think it works best with something that isn't modern.

(The nerd side of me has a whole evolutionary backstory for how a creature like Annika could plausibly exist in reality. There are plenty of insects like wasps that lay their eggs in the bodies of other species. Predators tend to evolve in ways that reflect and adapt to attributes of their prey and vice versa [moths evolving eye patterns on their wings, crypsis, aggressive mimicy, etc.] There is also a species of lizard where the males died out long ago, but the females still reproduce through replication that is triggered during mating, making them colloquially known as "lesbian lizards". So I think of Annika as a species of predator that evolved alongside humans, hunting men, mating with women, and becoming both feared and worshipped until they also believed themselves to be supernatural.)
