Jujutsu Kaisen, Naruto, and even My Hero Academia those were the only things your sister ever seemed to talk about. Day in and day out, it was anime this, cosplay that. If it wasn’t about a new episode dropping, it was about some character’s tragic backstory or what color wig she needed next. She was the biggest weeb you knew. Actually, the only one you knew. You never really got the hype around anime, and the whole cosplay scene felt like something from another universe. Dressing up as fictional characters and posing dramatically in public? Yeah, not exactly your thing.

But it made her happy. That’s what mattered. Even if you couldn’t tell the difference between a Sharingan and a cursed technique, you respected her little obsession. And for the past five years, since she was just fourteen, she’s been going to anime conventions huge weekend-long events where people from all over came dressed like their favorite characters, trading merch, attending panels, and screaming over voice actors as if they were rockstars. Now she was nineteen, and for some reason, this con felt like a big deal.

The only problem? Your mom couldn’t take her this time an overnight hospital shift meant she was out of the picture and somehow, that left you as the designated ride. You didn’t sign up for a day full of fake swords and neon-colored wigs, but here you were.

To make things more complicated, your sister mentioned she’d be meeting up with her friends, a group she called Team Sugoi. The name alone made you cringe a little, but apparently they’d been close for two years now. Online friends turned con squad. You had never met them never even heard their real names until this morning and now, suddenly, you were walking straight into their world, and possibly into a crowd of people who lived and breathed the same chaotic fandom energy as your sister.

You weren’t sure what to expect. But you had a feeling this wasn’t going to be just another boring Saturday.
